The Institute of Internal Auditors has installed a new global board of directors with veteran internal auditor J. Michael Joyce as the new global chairman.
The election occurred this week at the IIA’s annual business meeting, on the heels of the 2019 International Conference, which attracted 2,700 professionals from across the globe. Officers are elected for a one-year term, while directors serve a two-year term.
As the new global chairman, Joyce plans to make “Audit in Tune” the IIA’s theme for 2019-20 to emphasize the urgency for internal audit’s synchronization with other risk management controls. He will lead a 17-member board, a first in the organization’s history. Board members include professionals from the United States, Canada, South Africa, Spain, Japan, China, Tanzania, Malaysia and Australia.
Joyce has more than 36 years of professional experience and has been actively volunteering with the IIA since 1989, including serving as senior vice chairman of the global board (2018-19) and chairman of the North American board (2015-16). He is vice president, chief auditor and compliance officer for Blue Cross Blue Shield Association.
