Highlights of some of our favorite tax-related blogs from the past week.

The cruelest month looms

• Tax Girl: The annual “Taxes from A to Z” series continues with F is for Filing Status. No doubt that some days at this point in the season F stands for something else in your practice, too.
• Taxjar: Sales tax due dates for next month, by state.
• Don’t Mess With Taxes: Snowballs of the Season Dept.: Spring, housecleaning and deducting all that stuff your clients are suddenly giving to charity. Also, how so far and at least statistically this filing season strongly resembles the last.
• TurboTax: Tax-wise, the differences between Flexible Saving Accounts and Health Savings Accounts.
• BNA blogs: Tried, true and earnings per share: When a measurement stands up to the years.
• Rubin on Tax: A recent Tax Court case illustrates how the IRS was able to assess income taxes against two trust beneficiaries even though the statute of limitations for assessment had expired, via the mitigation provisions of the IRC. Also, applicable federal rates for April.

Dark linings

• Mauled Again: Consider the circular irony of deficit haters (and those for whom they vote) greenlighting cuts in IRS and state revenue department budgets, which in turn reduces revenue.
• BNA Bloomberg Software: The dark lining of the silver Cloud (storage)? Privacy, security of sensitive data and physical loss of control over data.
• Tax Policy: Joseph Henchman looks at the Supreme Court’s recent turn down of Nebraska and Oklahoma and those states’ challenge – citing cross-border crime – of Colorado’s legalization of marijuana, “without explanation.” Maybe the justices just forgot.
