KPMG announced on Thursday that the firm is joining international charity organization WE and U.S. Olympic Gold Medalist Laurie Hernandez to promote literacy initiatives across the country.
KPMG and WE will look to hold “WE Day” events for young people in the U.S. to promote literacy in their communities. Hernandez is set to serve as the firm’s “literacy champion” and speak at the events alongside top KPMG members.
Hernandez and Lynne Doughtie, KPMG’s chairman and CEO, spoke in New York on Thursday at Radio City Music Hall to introduce the program. Hernandez encouraged the audience to share “The Book That” changed their lives, using the hashtag #TheBookThat on social media. For every use of the hashtag on WE Day, KPMG will donate a new book to a deserving child, with up to 5,000 books total.
“KPMG’s commitment to making a tangible difference in our communities is a long-standing value,” stated Doughtie. “Through our relationship with WE and efforts with Laurie, we’re amplifying our lifelong learning initiatives by advancing literacy and building future leaders.”
