Oracle reports that it has found a new customer niche in institutions of higher education. According to the company, colleges including Lorain County Community College, San Francisco State University, Shawnee State University, University of Maryland, Baltimore, University of Wyoming, and the University System of New Hampshire have selected the company’s enterprise performance management cloud solution for planning and forecasting. A director at SFSU stated she chose Oracle “with the main goal being to reduce our time sifting through multiple systems and data downloads to just put a simple financial report or analysis together.” Oracle officials said in a statement that its cloud solution helps colleges better align budget dollars with organizational priorities to achieve academic and financial goals.
Avalara releases GST compliance tool for India
Avalara, provider of tax compliance software, has released Avalara TrustFile GST to support the new goods and services tax in India. The new tax law went into effect in July this year. The new national indirect tax regime makes India a unified common market and establishes GST as the single tax on the supply of goods and services, from manufacturer to consumer. The GST system replaces the prior indirect tax regime of multiple cascading taxes levied by Central and State governments. “Avalara identified India as a priority market 10 years ago, and we are excited to continue our expansion in one of the world’s fastest growing economies,” said Scott McFarlane, Avalara co-founder and CEO, in a statement.
XCM signs BDO Canada
XCM, which makes cloud-based workflow software for accountants, has signed BDO Canada as its newest firm client. “XCM was the clear choice to provide us online, real-time visibility into our work, resources, due dates, and to allow us to manage our business more efficiently,” said Kim Watt, CIO of BDO, in a statement. “XCM provided a scalable solution that would meet the needs of both our Tax and Accounting teams, across our more than 125 offices and over 3500 employees in Canada.”
