Georgia Society of CPAs holds 6th annual golf tournament benefiting college students

The Educational Foundation of the Georgia Society of CPAs recently hosted 95 golfers at the Brookfield Country Club in Roswell, Ga., for its sixth annual Golf Tournament. Attendees helped raise over $25,000 to be used for scholarships and programming for Georgia accounting college students.

“The Golf Tournament brings members and colleagues together for a fun-filled day of golf and friendly competition while raising funds for accounting scholarships, awards, and student programs,” stated Educational Foundation president-elect Robert Fields, who chairs the Foundation Golf Committee. “The tournament is a great place to support the cause and network with other professionals.”

The day included a putting contest and a standard scramble, concluding with a reception at the clubhouse. Fields presented prizes to the top three scoring teams and the two individuals with the longest drive. The day ended with a ball-rolling contest where the winner split the pot with the Educational Foundation. The Carr, Riggs Ingram sponsor team also went home with the Foundation Cup, winning the “tournament within the tournament.”

NJCPA announces 2018 Volunteer Award recipients

The New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants announced the winners of its Volunteer Award last week at its 2018 Annual Convention and Expo in Atlantic City. Thirty-nine professionals received the new award, with another 10 receiving honorable mention and another receiving the award posthumously.

Winners were chosen based on their contributions to the NJCPA, their local community, accounting students and the general public, giving recognition to the “selfless work that CPAs often perform every day without going noticed.”

“The Volunteer Award is a great way to say ‘thank you’ to many of our members who truly give back to their communities, their local schools and the next generation of CPAs,” said Ralph Albert Thomas, CEO and executive director of the NJCPA, in a statement.
