NJCPA holds Career Awareness Program with local high schools

Members of the New Jersey Society of CPAs offered personal stories and career advice to over 3,000 local high school students as part if its “Career Awareness Program.”

Speakers visited 115 high schools across the state. Attendees heard personal stories on how members became CPAs, as well as the numerous career opportunities that exist for students entering the profession.

“We are thankful for all of our members’ time in communicating the many benefits of the accounting profession. The students really show an interest in the discussions,” said Pam Isenburg, member engagement coordinator at the NJCPA, in a statement.

Presenters also touched on the NJCPA Scholarship Fund, which awards $7,000 scholarships to New Jersey high school seniors who plan to major in accounting at a college/university in the state. The Fund similarly awards $6,000 scholarships to current accounting students at New Jersey colleges/universities, currently in their junior or senior year, entering an accounting graduate program.

“To generate interest in the accounting profession is very rewarding. Students need career advice at both the high school and college level,” stated Peter Bozzo, CFO at American Continental Properties and presenter for the program. “It is a great way to give back to the next generation and help get them started in accounting.”
